Here we have a nicely detailed 3 1/2" gauge LMS Black 5 based upon the ubiquitous LBSC 'Doris' design. This is essentially a brand new model, having been finished in 2006, but judging by the boiler soot levels, steamed only once, and briefly so far just to test. It comes with the original 2006 Western Steam professional certificates, plus it's southern fed club certs dating back to the last time it was steamed. We can of course get it tested and freshly certificated for you ready to go.
The model is fitted with all the usual refinements. There are footplate operated drain cocks, An injector, mechanical hand pump, and eccentric axle pump with bypas. Lubrication is mechanical and hidden under the front footplate. The quality of machining work on the valve gear is superb, and the locomotive has virtually no slack in the motion, although is not at all tight, suggesting that it's been run in on air. It's certainly a cut above the usual Doris, and a very nicely done example of the well loved Black 5.
